Module 1: Inventory Management (15 Hours)
Description:
This module focuses on maintaining accurate records of library holdings, stock verification, and shelf organization.
Work & Activities:
- Understanding accession registers and stock records
- Physical verification of books (Stock Checking)
- Shelf reading and shelf rectification
- Identifying missing, misplaced, or damaged books
- Barcode verification and tagging
- Preparing stock verification reports
Learning Outcome:
Ability to maintain systematic inventory and ensure proper arrangement of library resources.
Module 2: Collection Development (15 Hours)
Description:
Covers selection, acquisition, and evaluation of library materials.
Work & Activities:
- Understanding selection tools (catalogues, reviews, publisher lists)
- Assisting in book selection based on syllabus/user needs
- Processing purchase recommendations
- Verification of invoices, editions, and pricing
- Accessioning (title page & secret page entry)
- Weeding and evaluation of outdated materials

Develop skills in building and maintaining a relevant and balanced library collection.
Module 3: Information Retrieval & Classification (20 Hours)
Description:
Introduces classification systems and techniques for efficient information retrieval.
Work & Activities:
- Basics of classification systems (DDC – Dewey Decimal Classification)
- Assigning call numbers
- Subject analysis of documents
- OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) search techniques
- Indexing and keyword identification
- Abstracting and summarization exercises

Ability to classify documents and assist users in locating information effectively.
Module 4: Bibliography & Reference Services (15 Hours)
Description:
Focuses on user services, reference tools, and preparation of bibliographies.

- Assisting users with queries
- Preparing subject bibliographies
- Citation styles (APA, MLA basics)
- Ready reference and long-range reference services
- Current Awareness Service (CAS) & SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information)

Module 5: Digitization (15 Hours)
Description:
Covers digital preservation and conversion of physical resources.
Work & Activities:
- Scanning books, manuscripts, and question papers
- File naming conventions and metadata entry
- OCR (Optical Character Recognition) basics
- Creating PDF archives
- Digital storage and backup practices
- Copyright and ethical considerations
Learning Outcome:
Understanding of digital library creation and preservation techniques.
Module 6: Website, Blog & Content Creation (10 Hours)
Description:
Focuses on digital communication and content development for libraries.
Work & Activities:
- Writing blog posts related to library activities
- Creating book promotions and announcements
- Managing library website content
- Social media updates
- Designing user awareness content (posters, notices)

Ability to communicate library services effectively through digital platforms.
Module 7: Library Automation (15 Hours)
Description:
Introduces library management software and automation processes.
Work & Activities:
- Overview of Library Management Systems (LMS)
- Data entry of books (cataloguing module)
- Member registration
- Circulation (issue/return/renewal)
- Barcode generation and usage
- Report generation

Module 8: Book Review & Documentation (15 Hours)
Description:
Enhances analytical and documentation skills.

- Reading assigned books/articles

- Maintaining internship logbook
- Final report preparation
